How to get in touch with our team
Through our work we improve people’s health both directly and indirectly. We run specific initiatives such as walking schemes and physical conservation activities, but much of our work helping to improve lives in disadvantaged communities affects the wider determinants of health.
We’ve found that encouraging people to value, use and improve open spaces is one of the most effective ways of kick-starting a revival in the fortunes of damaged communities and also helping people adopt healthier lifestyles.
Through our work, more people are encouraged to walk, cycle and exercise, and we support food growing and healthy eating initiatives in many areas.
Improving mental wellbeing is a major outcome of many of our youth and employment programmes. In Plymouth we have been running the wonderfully engaging Horticultural Healing project since 2001, which uses horticulture as a therapy medium for people experiencing mental health problems or with acquired brain injuries. The impact on individual lives of this project continues to delight and amaze us, our clients and their support workers.
Of course the NHS is also a huge business and employer, as well as having an extensive property portfolio to manage and wide procurement requirements, linking them to hundreds of suppliers. Our Environmental Business Mentors have been working with one local PCT to reduce their carbon footprint and to review their resource and waste processes.
