Conservation Volunteering

Working together on practical projects to help wildlife and people is great fun. There are lots of different reasons why people of all ages volunteer with us:

  • Meet new people and make new friends Volunteers
  • Learn about and help local wildlife
  • Learn new skills and improve the chances of getting the job you want
  • Get some exercise in the fresh air

Everyone is welcome

  • No previous experience is required
  • Our tasks are suitable for all ages (although under 16's must be accompanied by an adult)
  • You don’t have to be especially fit to take part. Everyone can work at their own pace and we can find something to suit everyone's level of fitness

Volunteering is a great way to get out and about and get back to nature whilst helping the environment to thrive. Here are a few words from a volunteer who benefitted from conservation volunteering with Groundwork South West:

Rob approached Groundwork as he needed to experience volunteering as a part of his apprenticeship with Babcock Marine. He joined Groundwork's Conservation Volunteering team in Plymouth and helped to create accessible footpaths through Woodland Woods and Southway Valley Local Nature Reserves.

‘Working with Groundwork was an enjoyable experience; I worked with Steve and the guys for a few days helping to improve local conservation areas. It was nice to get away from the office and do some work outdoors. Everyone was really friendly and it felt great to be helping out. I benefitted from getting to work with new people and discovering local conservation areas I never knew about, I hope the local areas benefitted from better kept and more accessible green areas.'
